Dog Junk Art Sculpture
This charming folk art sculpture reimagines a wooden knife block as a seated dog-like figure, adorned with repurposed and found objects. The body, painted in a distressed yellow finish, supports a head crafted from a festive poinsettia-patterned tin, complete with wide googly eyes and a red bandana. Its legs are fashioned from metallic utensils, adding to its unique, assemblage character.
Background Note
Assemblage art, a technique where three-dimensional objects are combined to create a work of art, gained prominence in the 20th century, notably with artists like Pablo Picasso and Robert Rauschenberg. This piece exemplifies a modern folk art approach to assemblage, often reflecting local craftsmanship and resourcefulness by transforming everyday objects into imaginative new forms.
